Repurposing Literary Romance Texts in Medieval Manuscripts. Beyond the Author

The second chapter in Stefano Resconi’s new book (Repurposing Literary Romance Texts in Medieval Manuscripts. Beyond the Author, Abingdon-New York, Routledge, 2025) investigates the various forms of ‘textual repurposing’ employed for texts copied into miscellaneous organised manuscripts, with particular attention for the didactic ones pertaining to the MeRMAID project. The analysis of significant case-studies shows the different ways in which compilers may guide readers to assign with a specific or completely new function to the works they transcribe; a function that, albeit sometimes very different from the one originally intended by their authors, proves to be consistent with the new manuscript context and its ideological purposes.
